National Employer Service in the Region

National Employer Service in the South West

The National Employer Service (NES) is responsible for managing both strategic and contractual arrangements with large, national, multi-sited employers. The aim is to be a catalyst for greater investment by the employer in the skills of their workforce. The NES provides a single point of contact with the LSC, normally through a direct contract with the employer, while providing flexibility and support for the employer to engage at local/regional level to meet local and regional needs.

NES contracts may be available to large national employers:

  • with approximately 5000 or more staff.
  • who are looking for an initial contractual programme of 200 or more learners
  • who will take ownership of, and manage, the programme at senior level at head office

Where the employer meets the criteria above, the NES preferred model is to contract directly with the employer, who then sub-contracts commercially with the provider(s) of their choice. It may be possible for a provider to hold the contract with NES and provide a customised service to the employer, on an interim basis.

Organisations such as the Police, Fire Service, Associations, Local Authorities and the NHS that have a local/regional remit will not be eligible for support through the NES.

Employers with less than 5000 staff will normally be managed through the LSC's multi-regional arrangements.

The full protocol for dealing with Employers who meet the NES Remit and need to be referred to NES can be viewed by clicking on Protocol

Employer List

The List of Employers details those currently under contract with NES. Any contact from or regarding these providers must be referred to NES in the first instance.

However NES is constantly in discussions with prospective employers and therefore any enquiry where it is felt the employer may be within the parameters above must be referred to NES as per the NES Flowchart.
